Everyone loves a good hat, but what’s your favorite style of hat? There are so many variations of hat styles that it tough to know about them all. No worries, we’ll help you learn about 9 different hat styles that may look great on you!
A baseball cap is a type of soft cap with a rounded crown and a stiff bill projecting in front.
The front of the cap typically displays a design or a logo (historically, usually only a sports team, namely a baseball team, or names of relevant companies, when used as a commercial marketing technique). The cap may be “fitted” to the wearer’s head or the back may have elastic, a plastic prong-in-a-hole (multiple holes with one prong that can be inserted), Velcro, a zipper, or a tri-glide slide so that it can be quickly adjusted to fit different wearers’ heads. The baseball cap is a part of the traditional baseball uniform worn by players, with the brim pointing forward to shield the eyes from the sun. Lids and New Era are great places to find baseball hats.
2. Dad Hats
A dad hat or dad cap is a baseball cap that has canvas or cotton material and has a slightly curved brim. The brim is not as curved as your traditional baseball cap. Dad hats are known for being a little oversized to the wearer. Dad hats are not snapbacks, flat brims, or fitted hats. When it comes to dad hats, Cap Ora is one of the best brands for cool hats. 3. Fitted Hats
A fitted hat is a hat with an almost completely flat brim. The reason these hats are called “fitted” is because they are not adjustable. People who wear fitted hats have to purchase the hat specific to their head size. The key feature of any fitted cap is the sticker located on the front of each hat. The hat loses value if you remove the sticker. Popular brands that sell fitted hats include New Era and Lids.
4. Snapback Hats
The snapback is a 6-panel cap with a wide flat brim. Snapbacks are very similar to fitted hats, with the main difference being the adjustable snap on the back of the hat, which makes it ‘one size fits all’. You can also recognize the real snapbacks by the sticker on the peak.
5. Fedora Hats
A Fedora hat is a hat with a soft brim and indented crown. This hat is very unique compared to other hat styles. It is typically creased lengthwise down the crown and “pinched” near the front on both sides. “Stitched edge” means that there is one, two, or more rows of stitching radiating inward toward the crown. Brixton and Lock & Co Hatters are industry leaders when it comes to fedoras.
6. Flexfit Hats
Flexfit hat styles feature a patented technology that weaves spandex into the sweatband and throughout the entire crown, providing a superbly comfortable fit. These hats can be considered “one size fits all” because of the material that allows that hat to adjust to the size of the wearer’s head
7. Trucker Hats
A trucker hat (or trucker cap) is technically a type of baseball cap. Its design includes a brim or bill, but the main difference between trucker hats and dad hats is the foam front section that stands up tall and straight on trucker hats. The rest of the hat is constructed of plastic mesh with a snap closure in the back, making the hats one-size-fits-all. Dick’s Sporting Goods and Backcountry are the best shopping options if you want to buy trucker hats.
8. Beanie Hats
Beanie hats are head-hugging brimless caps, with or without a visor, made from triangular panels of material joined by a button at the crown and seamed together around the sides. Commonly made of cloth or felt material, beanies may also be made from leather or silk. In some U.S. regions and parts of Canada, the term “beanie” refers to a knitted cap (often woolen), alternately called a “stocking cap” or “toque”.
